A central Tampa man who was missing since May 4 and was reportedly spotted in the Tampa Palms area of New Tampa has been located and returned home.

According to the Tampa Police Department (TPD), Leon Nelson was found by his family in the Ybor City area near 18th Ave. and 32 St.

Nelson had left his home on Powhattan Ave. in Tampa on May 4 to collect cans and hadn’t been heard from since.

Nelson, 46, suffered brain damage following an accident in 1997 and is easily confused and disoriented, says the TPD Missing Persons Report. He had reportedly been spotted on May 5 near Bruce B. Downs in Tampa Palms.

His family found him hungry and wearing different clothes than what he was wearing when he went missing in early May.
